Biography

Alejandra (Alex) Capshew serves as Strategic Liaison to the Director (part-time) for the Irsay Institute. She served as the Irsay Chief of Staff prior to her retirement in Fall 2025, advising the director(s) on start-up operations for the Institute in all planning phases, and then overseeing day-to-day operational and organizational initiatives, and managing high-priority special projects and programs. She was also the associate director of the Indiana Consortium for Mental Health Services Research, where she is responsible for a variety of operational and research functions including grant proposal development and coordination, account budgeting and forecasting, research project management and compliance, and strategic planning.

Alex received a B.A. from Cornell University and an M.A. in history and sociology of science from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was a Ph.D. candidate before leaving academe to work in the banking industry. At IU, she worked as a project manager in sociology and as the coordinator of the Women in Science Program in the Office for Women’s Affairs before joining the ICMHSR in 2000.
