Biography
Andrew (Drew) C. Pickett is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Health & Wellness Design at the IU School of Public Health- Bloomington. Broadly, his research focuses on inclusive management practices and tailored intervention development to support healthy behaviors among specific populations. His current projects focus predominantly on older adult populations, including caregivers of people living with Alzheimer’s Disease (AD) or other AD-related dementias (AD/ADRD). He is particularly interested in the role of social connectedness and its associations with healthy behaviors (e.g., physical activity, nutrition, sleep, substance use). He has a secondary interest in research methodology, with emphasis on community-engaged and participatory co-design approaches.
Pickett’s research has been funded by the National Institutes of Health- National Institute on Aging (NIH- NIA), the Indiana Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute (CTSI), Regenstrief Institute, Inc., and the IU Office for Research, among others. He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles, in high-impact outlets such as JMIR Aging, BMC Public Health, Journal of Rural Health, Public Health Reports, Sex Roles: A Journal of Research, and Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport. He also has more than 65 refereed scholarly presentations at academic conferences. His research work has been recognized with awards from multiple national organizations, including the Society for Behavioral Medicine (Aging SIG), the American Academy of Health Behavior, and the American Public Health Association.
Prior to joining the faculty at IU, Pickett was an Associate Professor at the University of South Dakota (Division of Kinesiology & Sport Management). He holds earned degrees from the University of Florida (BA), University of Miami (MSEd), and Texas A&M University (PhD).
