Webinar series on school-based suicide prevention and response
Join us for a free online webinar series on school-based suicide prevention and response.
Tools and knowledge for school staff to recognize, respond to, and prevent youth suicide.
Youth suicide is a critical issue facing schools today, and school staff play a pivotal role in prevention and intervention efforts. This webinar equips school personnel with the knowledge and tools necessary to navigate the complexities of youth suicide risk. Attendees will learn about the scope of suicide risk in youth, gain clarity on essential terminology, deepen their understanding of risk factors and warning signs, and explore the collaborative roles of school mental health professionals in creating a supportive environment for students.
Explores how youth social environments shape suicide risk and offers community-based prevention strategies.
Through a close examination of youth’s lives in a community repeatedly rocked by youth suicides, this webinar reveals how the social worlds that youth inhabit and the various messages they learn in those spaces – about who they are supposed to be, mental illness, and help-seeking- shape their feelings about themselves and in turn their risk of suicide. Attendees will leave prepared to discuss (1) the social roots of suicide and (2) why they matter to both (a) youth suicide risk and (b) to building effective suicide prevention and postvention. Attendees will also gain insights into (3) actionable strategies to take back to their communities to begin conversations for change.
Guidance for schools on supporting students and communities after a suicide death occurs.
The minute a student dies by suicide, the message shifts from "suicide is a preventable public health problem," to responding to a family's and community's grief and loss, and recognizing and responding to potential increased risk for suicide among fellow students. In this webinar, attendees will learn how to identify those in need of support, and how to provide support during the first 24 hours, first week and the months and years following a suicide death.
